When Insect Consumption Is Socially Risky: Social Norms As a Major Barrier to Widespread Acceptance of Non-Normative Food
This research shows that social norms are a major barrier to the widespread acceptance of non-normative foods like insect-based dishes. People perceive eating these foods as socially risky, which leads to avoidance related to consumption in the presence of others, especially in social contexts with high concerns of impression management.
