Beliefs About Future Wealth Impact Financial Decisions
When consumers make financial decisions, they need not only think about their current financial situation, but also about changes in future wealth. We show that people generally have a positive outlook on the future and these optimistic views can serve as reference points, increasing preferences for riskier savings accounts.
