The Dark Side of Luxury: the Social Costs of Conspicuous Consumption
Conspicuous consumption often bestows social benefits to the actor. However, past investigations have largely failed to acknowledge the social costs of luxury consumption. The present work explores the “dark side” of luxury consumption and offers a model of when actors are likely to benefit and be punished for conspicuous consumption.
