The Effect of Sequential Self-Predictions on Behavior Change

A growing body of literature demonstrates the effectiveness of the self-prophecy effect as a behavior modification technique. It is a fairly simple-to-implement technique that aims at changing behavior in socially normative directions by asking people to make a self-prediction before the behavioral opportunity presents itself. Several moderators have already been identified; however, little previous research has been concerned with the optimization of the self-prediction request in order to magnify the subsequent change in behavior. This study focuses on the differential effects on behavior change of different sequences of self-predictions.
