Gift Giving in a Wok Environment Ritual
The aim here is to explore the gift exchange activity in a work environment ritual. Following Sherry’s model (1983) gifting activities are three: research and purchase, actual exchange and gift disposition and relationship realignment. Although research have emphasized gift giving, little investigation has been done considering the exchange moment in a work environment. Secret Santa is one of the more popular rituals involving gift exchange. It has become common to create variations in the ritual, giving more importance to the gifts to be exchanged rather than to the interpersonal experiences, like “Secret Friend Thieving”.
