Eileen Fischer, York University, Canada

Eileen Fischer is a Professor of Marketing, and the Tanenbaum Chair of Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise, in the Schulich School of Business at Toronto’s York University. Her research spans the fields of consumer research and entrepreneurship, and she has published in premiere journals in both fields. She is a former co-editor of the Journal of Consumer Research and served as an Associate Editor for both that journal and the Journal of Business Venturing.  Currently, she is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Marketing Research, and an Editorial Review Board member for the Journal of Marketing, the Journal of Consumer Research, the Journal of Business Venturing, and Entrepreneurship:  Theory and Practice.


Eileen has extensive experience as an academic leader. For example, internally to her faculty, she has held the roles of department chair for both the Marketing and Entrepreneurship groups; has served as the Associate Dean of Research, and as Chair of Tenure and Promotions Committee; and she is currently the Director of the Ph.D. Program. Within her University she has chaired or participated in numerous standing and ad hoc committees of the University’s Senate. In 2016, her contributions to York were recognized when she was named a University Professor. 


Within her fields of academic study, Eileen has also gained extensive leadership experience.  She is the Past President of the Consumer Culture Theory Consortium, having been elected as its Vice President in 2011 and become President in 2014. She was also elected to the five-year leadership rotation for the Entrepreneurship Division of the Academy of Management, serving as its Chair in 2009-2010.


Eileen’s style is consultative and energetic. She likes to help build things. She is highly motivated to make the institutions she works in increasingly inclusive and effective in meeting the needs of members.

Position’s Duties and Responsibilities

The President Elect performs the duties prescribed and approved by the Board of Directors, all of the duties of the President in his/her absence, and in the event a vacancy occurs in the position of President, automatically assumes such position. The President-elect also appoints the chair(s) of the North American Conference for the year of his/her presidency.
