Professor Geeta Menon is the Abraham Krasnoff Professor of Global Business and Professor of Marketing at Stern. She has been on the Stern-Marketing faculty at New York University since 1990. She received her Ph.D. in Business Administration (minor, social psychology) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Her research interests include the study of consumer memory, information processing and emotions in the contexts of survey methodology, advertising of health information and risk perception. Her work has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Consumer Research, Journal of Marketing Research and Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and has been funded by the National Institutes of Health and the American Diabetes Association.
Geeta is very active professionally. She serves as an Associate Editor at two premiere marketing journals: the Journal of Consumer Research and the Journal of Marketing Research. In addition, she is on the Advisory Board of the Journal of Consumer Psychology and is on the editorial board of the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. She has served on several important committees at Stern, and most recently served as the Marketing Department chair for four and a half years. She has held appointments at other institutions as well including the Laura and John J. Pomerantz Professor of Marketing at the Wharton School (2008-2010), Visiting Professor at the Indian School of Business (2009), and Visiting Scholar at Stanford (Fall 2000) and the Indian Institute of Management-Bangalore (Spring 2000). During the last several years, Geeta has mostly focused her teaching efforts on the MBA core course in marketing. She has also taught graduate and undergraduate courses in marketing research and consumer behavior, and a behavioral doctoral seminar on consumer information processing in marketing. She enjoys mentoring doctoral students, and has placed her students in institutions such as Chicago, Cornell, Dartmouth, Northwestern, and USC. She has won the Citibank Award for excellence in teaching at Stern.
Geeta has been an active member of the Association for Consumer Research since 1989 when she was a doctoral student, and over the years has served several times as a presenter, discussant, special session organizer, Program Committee member, and faculty fellow at ACR doctoral consortia. She co-chaired the 2004 annual conference with Akshay Rao, and together they introduced the electronic submission and reviewing system to ACR, as well as electronic presentations at the conference. Geeta has also served on the ACR Board of Directors in the role of Treasurer in 2006. As President of ACR, she instituted the Early Career Award for distinguished scholarly contribution to consumer research. Besides serving as a forum for the exchange of ideas among researchers from different disciplines, she views ACR as playing an instrumental role in creating and maintaining intellectual and social networks, shaping careers, and providing helpful direction and mentoring for junior faculty and doctoral students. She hopes to play a role in continuing to facilitate these activities in the years to come.
